LIMIT'D
At Acclaim, I was tasked with the design and art direction of "Limit'd," a monthly publication that merged digital and print media to cater to fans of sneakers, streetwear, and hip-hop culture. Limit'd quickly became a significant application, with over 100,000 downloads across the Apple and Android app stores, with the print version was distributed nationwide across Australia and New Zealand.
Design and Layout:
Layout Design: Each issue had a thematic focus, aligning with current trends, releases, or cultural movements within the streetwear and hip-hop space. This required a flexible layout design that could accommodate varying content while maintaining brand consistency.
Brand Showcases: The layout was crafted to highlight top sneaker and streetwear brands like Nike, Converse, Supreme, and Palladium. This involved creating visually engaging spreads that could showcase products with high-resolution images, and brand stories.
Colour Palette: The UI/UX was infused with a fun, colourful, and vibrant aesthetic to resonate with the energetic and creative nature of streetwear culture. The design system had over 300 colour profiles.
Typography: Custom fonts that reflected the urban and edgy vibe were selected to complement the imagery and enhance readability across digital and print formats.
User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX):
App Design: Features like swipe-to-navigate, zoomable images for detailed viewing of products were incorporated to increase user engagement.
Navigation: User-friendly navigation was key, with icons and menus designed to be easily understood by the target demographic, which tends to be tech-savvy but not necessarily tech-focused.
Streetwear Stories: Content was not just about showcasing products but telling stories behind the brands, collaborations, and cultural impacts, which required a thoughtful approach to editorial content.
Distribution and Engagement:
Print Distribution: The print version was distributed throughout all HYPE DC stores and at events such as Sneaker Freaker.
Results:
Downloads: Achieving over 100,000 downloads was a testament to the appeal and relevance of Limit'd in the market.
Cultural Impact: By integrating fashion with music culture through editorial choices and design, Limit'd not only served as a product showcase but also as a cultural touchstone for enthusiasts.
Conclusion: My role at Acclaim with Limit'd was comprehensive, involving month-to-month creative decisions that balanced aesthetic appeal with user functionality, cultural relevance, and brand identity. This project allowed me to merge my interests in design, fashion, and music, creating a product that was both commercially successful and culturally significant.
